Item model number: 495-60-70 Suggested Preparation Before Painting or Staining Pearl Mantels Auburn Mantel Shelf - No. 495 Before applying paint or stain to your wood mantel, we suggest that you lightly sand your Pearl Mantel or shelf followed by wiping it down with a tack cloth. When painting, we suggest using 2 coats of a stain blocking primer such as Zinsser®, Kilz® or similar product. Follow the instructions on the can. For staining, please follow the manufacturer's instructions. Shipping: This item can only be shipped to the 48 contiguous states. Fireplace mantel shelves are EASY to install:
1. Measure
Make sure your mantel is centered above your firebox. Shelves are usually placed a minimum of 10-16 inches above the firebox. Check your local building codes for the minimum required distance.
2. Mount
Most shelves come with a ledger board. This is mounted on your wall and the shelf simply hangs upon it. The hardware (not included) used to affix the board depends on the facing material you are mounting the shelf on (any pro can tell you what to use).
Be sure the mantel fits snugly against the wall. You may fill any gaps with a small shim of paper or scribe molding.
