The moldings and design details of this srruound make it a little dressier and, perhaps, more formal than our other surrounds. Made to order, great care and quality craftsmanship go into the creation of each Geoffrey. Whether it is a standard size or custom mantel, it is offered in 4 wood types: a paintable MDF or Birch wood, and for those who wish to use stain: it is available in Birch or Oak wood. This custom mantel is built to your specifications and can take 3-4 weeks to manufacture. It will take an additional week if your order includes paint or finish.

A variety of materials are used in our wood mantels to keep our prices low and to ensure durability. Each wood fireplace mantel comes in four different materials depending on the look you want to achieve:

Paintable Wood Fireplace Mantels

MDF - Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is made from wood fibers blended with synthetic resins. This material is easy to paint and withstands many years of use. We use finger-jointed wood moldings on our MDF mantels and shelves.
Paintable Birch – Our paintable wood mantels are built from birch with finger-jointed pine moldings.

Stainable Wood Fireplace Mantels

Stainable Birch – Our stainable wood mantels are built from birch with solid white pine moldings.
Oak Fireplace Mantels – Our oak mantels are built using red oak and solid oak moldings.

Fireplace Surrounds

What size fireplace surround should you order?

1. Measure
Measure the height and width of your firebox. The surround legs should be a MINIMUM of 6 inches from the firebox while the shelf should be a MINIMUM of 10” from the firebox, 14-16” for shelves with a 10” or . Check your local building codes for the minimum required distance.

2. Choose
Choose between a standard or custom made surround. If your interior width measurement is not 48, 50, 52 or 56 inches – you are going to need a custom made mantel surround.

3. Design

There is no right or wrong when it comes to designing the look of your surround. Some people like to show off more facing material than others. Whether it be tile, granite, stone marble or brick surrounding your firebox, only you know how much of it to display to ignite your room and your heart.
